Rømø Motor Festival 2024 - beach racing in Denmark
These images are close to two years old at this point. I have never shared them in full like I am about to here. The main reason is that I grew tired of Instagram, where I in the past shared most of my images. Secondly I was not super happy with all of them. There were a few that I liked and most were somewhere around the “neutral” mark on the spectrum.
I shot this amazing event before, back in 2021. I made 3 different blog posts about it back then - one for each film stock Fujifilm C200, Kodak Ektar 100 and finally Ilford FP4. As the film stocks suggest they were shot on analog cameras. The two first ones on my Nikon FE and the last one on my Minolta Hi-Matic 7s. I felt the analog feel matched the spirit of the event.
All images in this post are digital. They are all shot on the Nikon Zf that I later sold and somehow I did not feel like the super sharp and crisp look matched the event. Hence they have been stowed away on the computer for a very long time.
Recently I started going over some of the old images taken on the Nikon Zf as I had developed a slight itch for buying one again. So I started looking through the old images, trying different recipes that I found I could apply using Nikon’s NX Studio, but also going over some and trying to edit and apply different presets to take away some of the clinical crispness that comes out of the Nikon Zf.
In this process I finally arrived at a look that I am not only satisfied with, but over the moon about. I am so pleased with the look these images now have and I am very happy to share them.
Only issue is that now I put another weight on the side of buying the Nikon Zf - again.

What I like the most is that on initial glance it is difficult to see whether these images are taken 2 years ago or 20 years ago. Somehow that appeals to me.

This image above is one of the images where I also liked the original that was very sharp and crisp. But the edited version is just better yet again. I really like the orange on the pavilion, the red on the flag combined with the texture of the grain present in the flag and around the table. Mmmhh.

People are really making an effort to keep the atmosphere.

This image above turned from “meh” to really nice in my opinion. I can almost feel the texture of it.

If you do not like your neighbors then this exhaust is for you.

Probably not super apparent from the image, but this guy drifted his cigar-racer when turning around for the return way after the straight they drag race on. Not a move that the organizers liked - but everyone else - loved it!

As I did not have access to the inner circle of the event I started looking around for other things that could “signify” the event. One thing I noticed was a lot of cool things hanging from rear view mirrors or sitting below it. Which the next couple of images will show.

This image above is another one of those that I was pleased with originally, but after the edit it is just even better!

The image above is very close to being my favorite. The pastel green of the van, the light blue of the sky together with the texture of the grain and of course the subject itself.
I will surely get this one printed.

The last image I am somewhat on the fence about. It works better with the new edit but somehow it just does not give the exact vibe I was after when shooting it.
